Reflection on Today Gospel by Fr Stefan

Jesus tells us today in the Gospel “The children of this age marry and remarry;
but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age
and to the resurrection of the dead
neither marry nor are given in marriage.
They can no longer die,
for they are like angels;
and they are the children of God.”

Many people are surprised that there is no marriage in Heaven. Marriage is an image of Heaven. In Heaven we will not need the image because we have Jesus as our Spouse. That being said, Grace perfects nature, and that is true in Heaven with regard to marriage. What I mean is that the love that a man and woman have here will be perfected in Heaven.

This will be true even of friendships that we have here on earth. In Heaven, the friendship will be stronger and purer than they were here In Heaven and we love each person perfectly but not equally. Grace builds on nature we will have stronger bonds with those we love on Earth.

Let say a woman loses a baby at childbirth. That baby in Heaven has a special love for the mom and dad. That baby will pray for its family in a powerful way.

Now back to marriage and Heaven. John Paul II wanted to cannonize a couple. He found Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi. The first married couple beatified together.  John Paul II in his homily about this couple mentioned their mutual intercession in obtaining a miracle. The image that is given is that they are still united in love in Heaven,

Heaven makes everything better, friendship, love and marriage.
