Fr Stefan reflect on Reading from mass this morning and thought from Pope Francis

We read this morning at mass, “And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.”(1JN 5:4) Pope Francis said in a recent homily, “when we pray we must pray assured of victory. If we don’t pray with the assurance of victory we are already defeated.”

Pope Francis writes, “the praying person who intercedes for others is the one who has intuitively sensed God’s deepest sentiments and holds fast to them despite all contrary indications, even when God’s speech seems to be at variance with events.”

Pope Francis reflects the spirituality of St Therese the little flower. St Therese said we are to pray with Holy Boldness. Saints can sometimes say things in prayer that seem disrespectful to God. Saints can say in prayer, “God it seems that you are saying no, but I will not take no for an answer I am telling you to heal this person.” God hears these prayer because the person praying has the heart of God. God is looking to see if we believe this word of God, “and the victory that conquers the world is our faith.”(1 Jn 5:4)

When you pray, “pray with the assurance of victory, if you don’t pray with the assurance of victory you are already defeated.”
