Pope Francis writes, ‘Good always tends to spread. If we wish to lead a dignified and fulfilling life, we have to reach out to others and seek their good…St Paul will not surprise us: ‘The love of Christ urges us on’ (2 Cor 9:16) The Gospel offers us a chance to live life on a higher plane, but with no less intensity: ‘Life grows by being given away, and it weaken in isolation and comfort. Indeed, those who enjoy life most are those who leave security on the shore and become excited by the mission of communicating life to others.”
Jesus says, “He who saves his life will lose it but he who loses his life for my sake will save it.” We need to trust God.
Mother Elvira Petrozzi wrote, “The plans of men, beginning with mine, tend to be exclusive and close-minded: to reach a peace that sometimes is the peace of a cemetery. The plans of God, instead, ask us to risk and try an adventure. All of us, when we start on a new path, have human plans, natural ones, and even beautiful ones. But we are witnesses that, in carrying out our own plans, we fail. God is is enlarging our horizons. However, what we are experiencing now is not a human plan, but rather, we are abandoning ourselves to the plans of God, we are entrusted to him who wants to save his children at any price.”
When we trust God and let go God gives us an ‘Eternal Newness.” Pope Francis says, “They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint.(Is 40:31) …Or as Saint Irenaeus writes, ‘By his coming, Christ brought with him all newness….Jesus can also break through the dull categories with which we would enclose him and he constantly amazes us by his divine creativity.”
Jesus makes all things new. In the movie ‘Passion of the Christ’ as Jesus is carrying His Cross he says to Mary, “I make all things New.’ Jesus says, “Unless you become like a child you will not enter the kingdom of God.” When we draw close to God we are reborn as children. That is why we might be older physically but have the heart and spirit of a Child.
We need the Holy Spirit to bring life ‘Newness’ into our lives and our church. As Pope Francis wrote, ” Every form of authentic evnagelization is always ‘new.'” What the Holy Spirit does is give new life to old ideas and structures. The Holy Spirit doesn’t create anything new. He simply gives new life and power to old thing.
Jesus send us the power and love of the Holy Spirit and make us New Again
