Pope Francis writes, ” “Prayer on its own is not enough, we need the joy of celebration. We must celebrate Jesus through his Sacraments, because these give us life, they give us strength, they nourish us, they comfort us, they forge an alliance with us, they give us a mission. Without celebrating the Sacraments, we’ll never get to know Jesus. This is what the Church is all about: celebration.”
There is a song that goes like this, “Celebrate Jesus celebrate, celebrate Jesus celebrate, He is risen, He is risen, Let us celebrate the resurrection of our God.”
The sacraments are meant to be celebrated. Sometimes the priest might say before mass let us, “celebrate this mass.” Pope Francis is saying that we have something to celebrate in Jesus. I remember Father Bob saying, “Why is it that we can jump up and down when a ball goes into a hoop but we can’t get excited about Jesus?”
How can you have a celebration without a little excitement? Let us have a party for Jesus. We don’t need a birthday to celebrate Jesus. Everyday is a day to celebrate Jesus. Because everyday Jesus is pouring out his mercy, love and forgiveness on us.
Yes we have a reason to celebrate Jesus. As pope Francis says,” This is what the Church is all about: celebration.”
