Father Stefan reflects on reading of the day May 24, “Let the Holy Spirit guide You”

In the first reading we read, ” They traveled through the Phrygian and Galatian territory
because they had been prevented by the Holy Spirit
from preaching the message in the province of Asia.
When they came to Mysia, they tried to go on into Bithynia,
but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them,
so they crossed through Mysia and came down to Troas.
During the night Paul had a vision.
A Macedonian stood before him and implored him with these words,
‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’
When he had seen the vision,
we sought passage to Macedonia at once,
concluding that God had called us to proclaim the Good News to them.”(Acts 16: 4-10)

The Holy Spirit will guide you. We read that ‘They had been prevented by the Holy Spirit from preaching the message in the province of Asia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them, so they crossed through Mysia and came down to Troas.’ The Holy Spirit had a definite plan for Paul. Sometimes we might be prevented from doing something that we think is good, but that is because the Holy Spirit has a better plan for us. We read, “During the night Paul had a vision. A Macedonian stood before him and implored him with these words, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’

The Holy Spirit wanted Paul in Macedonia. Paul probably was thinking, ‘Macedonia, why Macedonia?’ We often don’t understand why the inspirations of the Holy Spirit moves us to do certain things. Surrender to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. John of the Cross says, “When the Holy Spirit takes you, give the Holy Spirit the freedom to take you where ever He desires. St Paul says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.” There is freedom in trusting in the Holy Spirit and allowing him to guide us.
