This afternoon I was praying with an older man who has struggled with self doubt, depression and anxiety his whole life long. When I was praying with him the Lord gave me the image of Moses taking off his shoes in the presence of God. God said to Moses at the burning bush, “Moses Moses take off your shoes for the place you are standing is holy ground.”
When I was praying it occurred to me that children take off their shoes. We take off our shoes at the beach. We take off our shoes when we walk in the meadow.
I remember once going on a retreat and not putting my shoes on for an entire week.
The point is this, when we are standing on holy ground we are meant to take off our shoes and enjoy life.
Taking off our shoes means to enjoy life.
