We read in the catechism, “The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it.
‘Every form of social or cultural discrimination in fundamental personal rights on the grounds of sex, color, social conditions, language, or religion must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God’s design.” (1935)
Pope Francis comment recently on the newspaper article mocking Islam. Pope Francis said, “free speech has limits and cannot be used to make funny, mock another person’s religion.” Pope Francis was attacked by many as if he was attacking a fundamental pillar of democracy. Pope Francis was simply saying that free speech and democracy rest on virtues such as; kindness, love, patience.
We read in scripture, “And Peter opened his mouth and said: ‘Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”(Act 10:34-35) We read of this beautiful vision of Heaven from John, “I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and people and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb.'”(Rev 7:9-10)
God loves all people. God loves diversity. One of the ways that we can make our churches look more like Heaven is to welcome and love all people from all nations, tribes and people and tongues.
Question for the day: Do I need to repent of the sin of racism? Do I tell racist jokes?
Prayer for the day
Jesus thank you for the diversity you have given us in creation
Jesus help me to see that every person is a child of God with infinite dignity
Jesus purify my heart to love all people
Jesus help me to see that the differences that you created are to be celebrated
Jesus help me to make this world more like Heaven where all people from all nations will be gathered before the Lamb
