Teaching from ‘Soul Institute’ Go before the Jesus in the Eucharist and ask for a new anointing of the Holy Spirit

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not the end of our life with God, but rather the beginning of our relationship with God. The Holy Spirit wants to renew us. Every day we ought to pray, “Come Holy Spirit.”

A question arose in theology if we receive the Holy Spirit at Baptism, “How can you receive more of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation?” Alan Schreck in his Book, “Catholic and Christian “ quoting St Thomas writes “there is an invisible sending of the Holy Spirit also with the advance in virtue or an increase of grace…such as invisible sending is especially to be seen in that kind of increase of grace whereby a person moves forward into some new act or state of grace; as, for instance, when a person moves forward into the grace of working miracles, or of prophecy, or out of the burning love of God offers his life as a martyr, or renounces all his possessions, to undertake some other such arduous thing.”

An image some use to say the same thing is the image of water. Water is one but it has many different effects on the earth.  We can see the different effects water has in a garden.  The garden in an image of the church.  As there are many different flowers in a garden the Water of the Holy Spirit gives many different gifts and vocations to the Church.  The Holy Spirit is one but it has many different effects in our soul and in the Church.

We can become more docile to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. John Paul II says in the Apostolic Letter Novo Millennio Ineunte , “The great mystical tradition of the Church of both East and West has much to say in this regard. It shows how prayer can progress, as a genuine dialogue of love, to the point of rendering the person wholly possessed by the divine Beloved, vibrating at the Spirit’s touch, resting filially within the Father’s heart.” We are called to surrender more and more of our lives to the Power and Love of the Holy Spirit. This image of vibrating at the Spirit’s touch evokes in me an image of being a Harp that plays beautiful music at the hand of the Beloved. We are to allow ourselves to be moved at the slightest touch of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said to St Faustina, “Faithfulness to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit , that is the shortest route to holiness.”(Diary 291)

Because the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is only the beginning. We are called to be  renewed daily in the Holy Spirit. We might have received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit years ago. But we will always need a new anointing of the Holy Spirit.  One of the privileged places to receive this new anointing is prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. In the Blessed Sacrament Jesus is just waiting to fill us anew with the Holy Spirit. Go and meet him in the Blessed Sacrament, and be renewed in the Holy Spirit.
