Blog 6 white paper on the Sacrament of anointing of sick, basis premise of paper that the Sacrament of Anointing of the sick is primarily about Healing and only secondarily about the forgiveness of sins

The Sacrament of Anointing of the sick and Confession, While it is true someone may validly receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick without going to confession (Again this is the vast majority of cases). It would be advisable to go to confession before receiving the Sacrament of Anointing. It would be advisable for the same reason we encourage people to go to confession before they receive any sacrament other than Baptism. It is advisable to receive confession before anointing so that we remove the barriers of sin. We can receive all the graces of healing that God wants to give us. When we receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick we want to take the posture of Mary who said, “Yes Lord Let it be done to me according to Your Will.”
