Reflection for this Sunday Christ the King ‘Soul Institute’

This Sunday is Christ the King. Pope Benedict XVI writes, “God does not have a fixed plan that he must carry out; on the contrary, he has many different ways of finding man and even of turning his wrong ways into right ways….the feast of Christ the King is therefore not a feast of those who are subjugated, but a feast of those who know that they are in the hands of the one who writes straight on crooked lines.”

God does not have a fixed plan that he must carry out, on the contrary, he has many different ways of finding man and even turning his wrong ways into right ways.  God is not a ‘Type A’ personality. God is flexible. He has a million and one ways to reach you.

Christ the King is a Feast of those who know they are in the hands of one who writes straight on crooked lines.

The Gospel for Christ the King is the ‘Good Thief.’ Here is a man who did many bad things in his life. Looking at Jesus he says, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus says to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Oscar Wilde wrote these beautiful words In his sublime poem “Ballad of Reading Gaol”
Ah! Happy they whose hearts can break
And peace of pardon win!
How else may man make straight his plan
And cleanse his soul from Sin?
How else but through a broken heart
May Lord Christ enter in?
