Making a Folder for the Hospital ‘Evangelization’ Thoughts on Anointing to Inspire Faith’ The Role of Faith

Mary Healy in her book ‘Healing’ says ” ‘Your faith has made you well’ No statement of Jesus is quoted more often in the Gospel. No saying is more characteristic of his healing miracles.”

Mary writes “To the woman with a hemorrhage he said ‘Take heart daughter; your faith has made you well. (Matt 9:22; Mk 5:34; Lk 8:48)

To the sinful woman who wept on his feet, ‘Your faith mas made you well; go in peace.’ (luke 7:50)

To one of the leper who returned to give thanks for his healing’Rise and go; your faith has made you well’ (Luke 17:19)

And to the blind Bartimaeus “Go your faith has made you well.'(Mk 10:52; Luke 18:42)

In variation of this assurance Jesus said to two blind men, ‘According to your faith be it done to you.’ (Matt 9:29)

To the centurion with a paralyzed servant ‘Go; be it done for you as you have believed.'(Matt 8:13)

And to the Canaanite woman with a demonized daughter ‘O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.’ (Matt 15:28)”

Jesus asks the question ‘Do you have faith?’ One man asked for healing when Jesus posed this question. he answered Jesus “I do believe but help my unbelief.” It is OK if we feel we don’t have much faith. Faith is not a feeling. We don’t have faith in our faith. We have faith in Jesus. Jesus knew that our faith is often weak. So Jesus tells us “Truly, I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matt 17:20)

I remember seeing a young man whose brother was in the hospital. The man’s brother was in and out of the hospital every 3 months. Every time I went by the room the brothers and sisters pulled me into the room to give a blessing. I could tell that the man in the hospital bed was simply going along with his brothers and sisters. When I asked about the brother he said ‘He is healed. It looks good.’ It was more the faith of the brothers and sisters. This is an image of the faith of the mustard seed.
